Creative highlights

Throughout my creative career, I’ve been guided by a passion for storytelling, social change, and community empowerment. This journey has taken me from critically acclaimed performances to leading creative projects that centre usually silenced voices and drive meaningful impact.

As a performer, I had the honour of taking on lead roles in productions like ‘She’s Leaving Home’ and ‘Knocking On’, the latter of which I co-created with Keith Saha and 20 Stories high. ‘Knocking On’ earned 4-star reviews, marking a significant achievement in my creative journey. Another major milestone was the debut of my first independent theatre piece, ‘Family Healing’, at The Unity Theatre in 2022. This deeply personal project allowed me to explore themes of healing and identity while solidifying my place as both a writer and director, after building a strong reputation for performing.

In addition to my theatre work, I had the privilege of being published by Bloomsbury in ‘A Letter to My White Best Friend North’, a powerful collection addressing race, identity, and social justice. Contributing to this publication was a profound experience, giving me the opportunity to share my perspective on these critical issues within the arts industry with a wider audience.

Beyond the stage, my creative work has focused on community-centred projects that uplift marginalised voices, particularly among young people. In April 2023, I co-led the ‘Bubble Up Commission’ in partnership with Mindbloom Self-care. This weeklong arts program, funded by Curious Minds, centred on mindfulness and positive mental health for young people aged 11-16. Through creative writing, drama, and music, participants explored self-care, culminating in the production of a song and music video that was featured on BBC Radio Merseyside.

Another significant project was my work with ‘The World Reimagined’ in August 2022, where I led young people in creating a globe as part of a national initiative exploring the legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in Liverpool. Through poetry and visual arts, we engaged in critical conversations about history and identity, and the project received national media coverage for its impactful approach.

As an Artist Consultant for National Museums Liverpool, I contributed to the ‘Waterfront Transformations’ project. My role involved ensuring that the voices of Liverpool’s Black community were heard and represented in the design and context of this major development. This work will hopefully be crucial in shaping a more inclusive cultural space that reflects the city’s diverse history and communities.
